New McDonald’s on Rainbow Drive set for Tuesday groundbreaking

RAINBOW CITY — A new McDonald’s is taking shape on Rainbow Drive, and the project is set to reach a milestone next week. A groundbreaking ceremony is listed for Tuesday, July 28, on the Etowah County Chamber’s community calendar.

The restaurant is going up in front of Rainbow Plaza along one of the city’s busiest shopping corridors, and site work has been visible for some time. Rainbow City officials have previously confirmed the project.

Several details are still to be nailed down. There is no announced opening date yet, and it is not clear how many people the restaurant will employ or whether it represents a new location or a move from a nearby site. Building permit and site-plan records at Rainbow City Hall should fill in those blanks.

New retail and restaurant construction along Rainbow Drive reflects continued commercial growth in the area, which draws shoppers from across Etowah County.
