Julie Talton to take over as Etowah County Schools superintendent Aug. 1

GADSDEN — Etowah County Schools will have a new leader soon. Julie Talton becomes superintendent on Aug. 1.

The Etowah County Board of Education chose Talton in late June. She takes over for Dr. Alan Cosby. He is retiring after 16 years. He announced his plans earlier this year.

Talton is a graduate of Glencoe High School. She has more than 27 years of experience in Alabama schools. She joined Etowah County Schools in 2024 as director of elementary curriculum. She became assistant superintendent in 2025. The board’s choice still needs a final contract.

Talton starts just as students and staff get ready for the new school year.
