The project, completed by contractor Vulcan Materials, covered approximately 8.5 miles of Interstate 59, stretching from the St. Clair County line through Gadsden and continuing north beyond the US-431/US-278 interchange in Attalla.

Smoother Ride for Thousands of Drivers

For more than a year, construction crews have worked to mill, repave, and improve the heavily traveled interstate corridor used daily by commuters, commercial traffic, and travelers passing through Northeast Alabama.

To reduce daytime congestion, most paving operations were conducted overnight between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.

Although the project is considered substantially complete, drivers should still expect occasional overnight lane closures as crews finish final pavement adjustments, shoulder improvements, safety enhancements, and permanent pavement striping and markings.

Motorists are encouraged to remain alert in construction areas until all work has been finalized.
