Hot, humid and stormy in spots: Etowah County’s Thursday forecast

GADSDEN — It is another warm, muggy summer day across Etowah County, with a few afternoon storms in the mix.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham expects highs in the upper 80s to low 90s today under a partly cloudy sky. Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are possible during the afternoon, favoring the eastern half of the region, which includes the Gadsden area. Any storm that develops could bring locally heavy rain and gusty winds, though no widespread severe weather is expected.

Tonight, a few showers may linger before midnight before skies clear. Overnight lows will stay muggy, dipping only into the low 70s.

The pattern holds through the weekend, with hot and humid conditions, highs in the low 90s and a daily chance of pop-up afternoon storms both Saturday and Sunday.

No heat advisory is in effect for the area as of this writing, but with high humidity, forecasters encourage residents to take the usual precautions: drink plenty of water, take breaks from the heat, check on elderly neighbors, and never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.
