Where to vote in Gadsden on Aug. 25: all 16 polling places

GADSDEN – There are 16 Gadsden polling places for the Aug. 25 municipal election, and polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Three voting boxes have moved since 2022: boxes 6A and 7A now vote at the Senior Wellness Center, and box 03A votes at the Abundant Life Church gym.

The full list of Gadsden polling places is below, by voting box, with addresses. The city clerk’s office provided the list and cleared it for publication.

Where are the Gadsden polling places?

Find your box number in the left column. Two boxes that share a building are listed separately, because your box determines which line you stand in.

Which polling places changed since 2022?

Three boxes are voting somewhere new.

Boxes 6A and 7A move from Dwight Baptist Church to the Senior Wellness Center at 2829 W. Meighan Blvd. City Clerk Jennifer Smith said Dwight Baptist was only ever a temporary stop. The long-time polling place for those boxes, the former Elliott Community Center, was being demolished in 2022 and replaced by the Senior Wellness Center that stands there now. Those voters are going back to the same site, in the building that replaced the old one.

Box 03A moves from the former Gadsden High School lunchroom to the Abundant Life Church gym at 323 S. 12th St.

Smith said those are the only polling place changes since 2022. Every other box votes where it did last time.

What time do the polls open and close?

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 25.

Smith confirmed those hours in response to questions from GadsdenThrive, and said the question prompted her office to add the hours to the city’s election page, where they had not been posted.

Which buildings serve more than one box?

Four locations host two boxes each. Knowing the building is not enough at these sites. You need your box number.

East Gadsden Community Center serves boxes 01B and 02A. Thompson Community Center serves 02B and 03C. The Downtown Civic Center serves 04C and 05A. The Senior Wellness Center serves 06A and 07A.

The Senior Wellness Center is the busiest change of the three, since it absorbed both boxes that used to vote at Dwight Baptist.

What if I do not know my box number?

Call the Gadsden city clerk’s office at 256-549-4517 and ask which box you are assigned to. The office can confirm your box and the building that goes with it.

Am I registered in time?

The deadline to register or update your voter information is Monday, Aug. 10. Registration runs through the Etowah County Board of Registrars, not the city, at 256-549-5384.

Who is on the ballot?

Gadsden voters choose a mayor, seven City Council members and seven Board of Education members.

We reported earlier on the field of candidates for mayor, council and school board and on the candidates running for Gadsden City Board of Education seats. City elections here are non-partisan, and write-in votes are not permitted.

Voters should also note that Alabama’s Aug. 11 special congressional primaries do not include Etowah County. The Aug. 25 city election is the next time Gadsden residents vote.
