Gadsden Has the Second-Cheapest Gas in Alabama This Week

On Friday we showed you that gas in Gadsden is running under the Alabama average. We promised to show you the full picture today. Here it is: Gadsden has the second-cheapest gas of any metro area in Alabama this week, according to AAA.

At an average of $3.35 a gallon, Gadsden trails only our neighbor Anniston-Oxford, where drivers are paying about the same. Out of the 13 metro areas AAA tracks in the state, those two sit at the very bottom of the price list. That is a good place to be.

Here is how nearby metro areas compare this week:

• Anniston-Oxford: $3.35
• Gadsden: $3.35
• Decatur: $3.38
• Florence-Muscle Shoals: $3.44
• Huntsville: $3.44
• Birmingham: $3.46

The most expensive gas in the state this week is in Montgomery at $3.55 a gallon. Dothan is close behind at $3.54. That means a driver in Montgomery pays about 20 cents more for every gallon than we do here in Gadsden.

Alabama’s statewide average is $3.47. The national average is higher at $3.80. So drivers across Alabama, and especially here in Gadsden, are paying less than most of the country.

For folks who fill up two or three times a week, 20 cents a gallon adds up fast. On a 15-gallon tank, that is about $3 every fill-up, or close to $25 a month for a family that drives a lot. Living in one of the cheapest corners of the state puts a little money back in local pockets.
