Gadsden City Council to weigh landfill dirt bid, Sports Park parking Tuesday

20 July 2026

GADSDEN — The Gadsden City Council will meet Tuesday, July 21, at 10 a.m. The meeting will be in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 90 Broad St. It is open to the public.

The council has posted its agenda. Two spending items stand out.

First, the council will vote on Bid No. 3646. It is for the 2026 Landfill Cover Dirt project. Cover dirt is spread over trash at the landfill. It helps control odor, pests, and runoff. The resolution would award the bid to the winning company.

Second, the council will look at an agreement with EE Group, Inc. The deal is for a parking lot expansion at Gadsden Sports Park. More parking could help the park handle games and events.

The meeting will also include regular business. The council will vote to approve past minutes. It will vote to ratify payments for the week of July 10 to 16. Mayor Craig Ford will give proclamations and commendations. Council President Back will recognize guests. City Clerk Jennifer Smith will call the roll.

The council will also recess to hold a work session and then return to finish the meeting. A work session is a time for members to talk through issues in more detail.

One resident is set to speak. Ceandra James will address the council about “Saving Our Sons.” The agenda also lists time for unfinished business, new business, department reports, and closing remarks by the mayor.

GadsdenThrive will report on what the council decides. We will follow up on the landfill and Sports Park items after the vote.
