Alabama holds special congressional primaries Aug. 11 — but not in Etowah County

GADSDEN — Alabama voters in four congressional districts head to the polls Tuesday, Aug. 11, for special primary elections — but Etowah County is not one of the places where a ballot will be cast.

The special primaries are being held in the 1st, 2nd, 6th and 7th congressional districts after the state redrew its congressional map. Under that new map, Etowah County sits in the 3rd Congressional District, represented by U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers. State officials have said Districts 3, 4 and 5 are not part of the Aug. 11 special primary.

In short, most Etowah County voters will not receive a special congressional ballot on Aug. 11 and do not need to take any action for that election. The winners of the Republican and Democratic races in the four affected districts will advance to the November general election.
